Undercover Boss

Spear & Jackson have recently donated a selection of garden tools to YMCA Warrington, following their recent filming of Undercover Boss.

The secret filming saw HR Director Bims Alalade going undercover in several YMCA’s to see for herself what goes on at a grassroots level.

“During my time undercover I observed staff who were incredibly passionate, dedicated and driven, who never gave up and really love what they do. There was an inspirational story behind almost every individual and I feel privileged to have encountered such amazing people. However, there were also stories of people experiencing great hardship with no happy ending. Despite this I was comforted by the care and support YMCA was providing to them in their time of need.”

The programme highlighted the fantastic work done by the YMCA, but also the hardships faced by the staff struggling on a limited budget. YMCA in Warrington has experienced budget cuts, but still manages to make the most of what they have to provide a fantastic service to the people who use their services.

Spear and Jackson, a Sheffield based tool manufacturer, donated a set of tools to YMCA Warrington for use on a new allotment space the centre had just acquired. YMCA Corporate Partnerships Executive David Drozdziak commented,

“The gardening equipment will be used by previously homeless young people from Warrington YMCA, under the guidance of our activities director, Brian, who features in the programme itself. This is a chance for the young people to take pride and ownership in a project to build their confidence and work together in a team to make the best use out of this currently unused allotment. It would provide therapeutic support and also a potential social enterprise selling produce.  They have the land available, but sadly nothing else.”

The episode aired on Tuesday 12th August at 9pm
