Spear & Jackson Staff Run the Sheffield 10K for St. Lukes Hospice

On Sunday 22nd September 2019, Team S&J took part in the Sheffield 10k Corporate Challenge to raise money for St Luke’s Hospice in Sheffield. 5 members of staff from Spear & Jackson UK made up part of the team, as part of the Spear & Jackson Group of companies.

The eight employees began the race at the starting point on Arundel Gate in torrential rain, but didn’t let it dampen their spirits or enthusiasm! The route took them through the city centre along Charter Row, and up Ecclesall Road, before skirting the edges of Endcliffe park, and back for a city centre finish.

Support from Sheffield Spectators

It was an amazing effort for Team S&J, who were placed 9th out of 22 Corporate teams, with an average time of 47.29. Neil Mason clocked the quickest time with an impressive 42.20, shortly followed by Duncan Horton at 49.46, and Katie Weller at 50.23. All in all, it was a great day for all runners, and despite the weather, there was still a good amount of support from Sheffield spectators all along the course.

The team raised an impressive total of over £1,700 all for St Luke’s Hospice, who provides specialist palliative care services in Sheffield. As a charity, all of St Luke’s services are free to the public, but as just 25% of its funding comes from the NHS, St Luke’s have to raise more than £10 million every year.
